Our Philosophy of Care

The primary aim of Blanchelande Park is to foster a philosophy of resident centred care encompassing physical, mental and spiritual needs.

Our desire at Blanchelande Park is to build a relationship that is based on trust and regard for the dignity of residents within the Home. Our philosophy is that we shall always recognise our residents as individuals each with differing needs, beliefs, values and opinions. At all times we shall endeavour to maintain resident’s privacy and to always address them in a respectful manner.

Our aim is to inform residents of all aspects of their condition and proposed care, including the alternatives available, unless a wish is expressed to the contrary. Residents have the right to accept or refuse treatment including diagnostic procedures without affecting the standard of care received.

At Blanchelande Park we shall positively encourage participation in social and recreational activities available, both within the Home and the local community – alongside this we shall assist in maintaining links with family, friends and previous associations.

We shall recognise the importance of health education and will endeavour to provide up to date individualised health education to residents and if so required assist in any lifestyle changes to be made.

Nursing

It is the quality of nursing care that distinguishes Blanchelande Park as being an outstanding home. Care Manager Rosalind Rix can call on her extensive experience of caring for Older people in Guernsey. Both she and her deputy have achieved qualifications in Care of the Older Person. They are highly qualified to lead their team of Registered Nurses (RNs).

There is at least one RN on duty at all times, day and night. Registered nurses have a variety of specialisms to ensure all nursing requirements are met. Following thorough assessments, the nurses will work in partnership with residents and their families to meet all needs. They are chosen for their experience in Care of the Older Person and continually update their knowledge by attending courses in this field.

The RN’s are supported by carers, senior carers and healthcare assistants. Many of our carers hold NVQ qualifications in care up to Level 3.

When you decide to make Blanchelande Park Nursing and Residential Home your home, you can be assured that our excellent care team can provide whatever level of care you require.

Financial Assistance

The States of Guernsey provide an excellent and generous Long Term Care Benefit Scheme for those who have residential qualifications and have obtained a Nursing or Residential Certificate from the Needs Assessment Panel. These benefits are not means tested, so residents have a right to financial support regardless of their circumstances. Residential Care

At Blanchelande Park there is a vibrant and active atmosphere with residents free to come and go as they please.

Friends and family are welcome to visit at any time. Some like to accompany the residents on walks within the grounds or local area, or to take them for a ride in ‘Blanche’, our own wheelchair-enabled vehicle.

During the night, the nurse in charge will happily check on residents if they wish. If you prefer more privacy, each room is equipped with a Nurse Call system that can be used at any time if assistance is required.
